PartyPoker founder pleads guilty in US courts

Anurag Dikshit, one of the four founders of PartyPoker, has pleaded guilty to federal crimes in a US court and agreed to pay around £200 million in compensation to the US government. There had been much speculation as to whether he would take his chances in court with many observers suggesting he had refused to pay the massive fine. The offence relates to the Federal Wire Act and operating Internet gambling games of chance to customers.<br /> <br /> While this settlement has grabbed headlines a similar arrangement has also been made on behalf the company for the same amount with some suggesting this will open the way for legalised online betting and casino operations in the US. The incoming president is known to be a fan of poker and many from the poker community are hoping he will be a little more proactive in trying to get the situation resolved.<br /> <br /> The other founders of PartyPoker are considering their positions although appear willing to take their chances in court. There is some suggestion that they believe online poker will be legalised very soon and they could actually escape prosecution. Whether this will happen very much remains to be seen.
