Poker stars looking to beat the recession in 2009

As we approach 2009 there are again high hopes that poker will be able to match and beat the progress made in 2008 which has moved the sport on to a different level. We saw one of the best ever World Series of Poker events in 2008, a number of new players entering the scene and more and more Russian poker players visiting Europe and America in search of glory. So can poker match the progress made in 2008?

While it will be difficult to attract the same level of sponsorship as that seen in 2008, the sport is now much better known and more popular than ever before and income streams from TV are now beginning to build up. If the majority of this money is ploughed back into the industry in prize funds and investment there is no doubt that 2009 seems yet again to be another great year for the sport.

So who will win this year's World Series of Poker event?

The field for this year's World Series of Poker tournament looks set to be larger than ever before and anyone brave enough to make a call now or even just prior to the tournament is literally grasping at straws. While poker is very much a game of chance it is the ability to take these chances and move on that separates the good from the excellent and the winners from the losers.
