Profile of Walter Clyde Pearson

While the name of Walter Clyde Pearson may not be well known amongst the poker playing communities of today he is the man who holds the record for the most number of consecutive World Series of Poker events having attended every event from 1970 to 2005. However, more than that he has four WSOP bracelets after winning $10,000 in 1971, $130,000 in 1973, $17,000 in 1973 and a further $32,000 in 1973.<br /> <br /> Born in 1929 in Tennessee, Walter Clyde Pearson passed away in April 2006 leaving a family of nine but his name is firmly imprinted on the poker playing record books. Commonly known as "Puggy" after a childhood accident left him with a disfigured nose at the age of 12 he went on to become not only one of the best known poker players on the circuit board but one of the best pool players in the world.<br /> <br /> After joining the United States Navy aged 17 he moved from his world record pool playing career to the poker gambling arena in which he made his name in later years. He is also reckoned to have had the original idea for a World Series of Poker type tournament which was used by Benny Binion to set up what is the best poker tournament in the world today. Walter Clyde Pearson was added to the poker Hall of Fame in 1987 in appreciation of his poker triumphs along the way.
