Leading online poker site PokerStars.com has announced that the team from Germany won its World Cup Of Poker V held at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas last week to take home a combined prize of $100,000. The Isle of Man-licensed site stated that German players Georg Geissler, Malte Strothmann, Bastian Wulff, Peter Schmidt and Jan Heitmann outlasted eight other teams from around the world during 16 hours of live poker played during its PokerStars.com Caribbean Adventure (PCA), which is an official event of the European Poker Tour. A New Zealand team consisting of Lee Nelson, Nicholas Webb, Richard Grace, Wayne Lo and Jordan Bryant took second place and a $70,000 prize while Luca Pagano, Michele Migliore, Pennisi Omar, Valeriano Bilancetti and Fabrizio Villa helped Italy finish in third for $50,000. A United States team of Greg Raymer, Shaun Deeb, Benjamin Zamani, Jarred Gabin and Bruce Armstrong finished in fourth spot for a combined prize of $30,000 while British players Vicky Coren, Steven Devlin, Laurence Houghton, Derek Morris and Karl Mahrenholz took fifth for $10,000. Poland finished in sixth followed by Latvia, Mexico and Canada with each earning $10,000 for their troubles. PokerStars.com revealed that each member of a team making it to the Caribbean final received prize packages that included travel and accommodation alongside the opportunity to compete live at the PCA. PokerStars.com stated that teams consisted of each country’s top tournament leaderboard duo from the previous year alongside two qualifiers from its freeroll tournaments as well as a nominated player. These battled it out in single table tournaments to determine chip stacks for the final table of the World Cup Of Poker V, which was a tag team event.
