Kentucky officials file an appeal against ruling

As expected it has today been revealed that the state of Kentucky has filed an appeal against the recent ruling which blocked the state from taking more than 140 gambling related Internet domain names under its control. This particular case has been ongoing for some months now after the leaders of Kentucky decided to attack the online gambling industry and attempt to seize the domain names, many of which are prominent in the gambling industry. Despite winning the initial ruling an appeal by the various gambling companies involved was successful and the immediate seizure of the gambling related domain names was blocked. The case now moves to the Supreme Court with many gambling experts conscious of a perceived support for the Kentucky move and a serious danger that the initial appeal could be overturned. It is very difficult to guess the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling which will take place later this year but as the Kentucky authorities attempt to build up support for their move it seems as though battlegrounds have been drawn again. The bases for the potential seizure of the domain names related to the use of domain names as "gambling equipment" which has been deemed to be against the laws of Kentucky.
