Jamie Gold Hosts Charity Tournament

Top professional poker player Jamie Gold forsake a possible large payday on Sunday night in order to host a special tournament following the Oscars in benefit of the Children Uniting Nations charity. Gold could have been across town competing at the Los Angeles Poker Classic, a World Poker Tour event that took place at the same time with a prize pool of seven million dollars, but opted instead to give his time to charity. The charity event was held during the Hollywood Reporter/Children Uniting Nations Gala after the annual awards ceremony and featured a tax-deductible buy-in that allowed players to compete next to Gold and other professional players and celebrities. Courtesy of online casino Aced.com, Gold’s latest sponsor, the lucky winner was set to walk away with their very own seat at the upcoming World Series Of Poker worth $10,000 along with an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas in addition to a private dinner and complete coaching by Gold before the Main Event gets underway. 'Some things are more important than trying to win a million dollars,” said Gold. “These kids need our help.' The Children Uniting Nations charity raises funds and awareness to help assist fostered and at-risk youth through school and mentorship programmes. The black tie evening also included dinner and an airing of the Oscars followed by presentations to individuals that have supported the charity in the past including the Black Eyed Peas and Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass. It also featured performances from Colby O'Donis, JabbawockeeZ, Sophie B Hawkins, Doug E Fresh, Teairra Mari and DJ AM. 'What an amazing act of selflessness and generosity,” said Daphna Ziman, founder of Children Uniting Nations. “We are deeply touched and thankful.'
