WPT Coming To Italy

World Poker Tour Enterprises Incorporated has announced a deal with leading online betting and gaming provider Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG to bring coveted World Poker Tour (WPT) to the city of Venice. Los Angeles-based World Poker Tour Enterprises announced earlier this week that it would be staging its first ever African event of the WPT in October at the Casino De Marrakech in Morrocco. The firm behind the WPT and its associated television programming is now expanding further with its debut event in Italy and stated that the Venice tournament would take place at the Casino Di Venezia on the east bank of the Grand Canal. The main event is scheduled to take place from May 6 to 10 featuring a €4,400 buy-in with the eventual winner receiving an official WPT bracelet alongside a $25,000 seat at the 2010 WPT Championship. 'We’re thrilled to launch our first ever bricks and mortar WPT tournament offering in Italy,” said Steve Lipscomb, President and Chief Executive Officer for World Poker Tour Enterprises. “Bwin is a strong partner with the right market position in the region. We look forward to working with them to bring this event and the WPT brand to poker players in Italy and Europe.” Lipscomb revealed that the Venice event would also feature cash games and side events and be filmed for broadcast on web television at Bwin.com. 'Partnering with the WPT illustrates our dedication to establishing Bwin as the premier gaming destination for poker players eager to live the dream of participating in multi-million bricks and mortar poker tournaments,” said Manfred Bodner, Co-Chief Executive Officer for Vienna-based Bwin. “Location was also very important to us and the Casino Di Venezia is truly a location worthy of the players, the poker media as well as the Bwin and WPT brands.”
