Tuesday 24th March 2009 Online Poker Player turns $100 into $10,000 in 15 days
An online poker player competing under the name ‘Boku87’ on PokerStars recently won one of the most amazing proposition bets in the history of online gambling by turning a stake of $100 into $10,000 playing only sit and go games.
According to the rules of the bet, ‘Boku87’ would win the bet if he could earn $9,900 using only his $100 stake playing games with a maximum buy-in of less than $16. He was given only 15 days to accomplish his task while also being required to avoid 90 and 180-player tables.
The entire challenge also had to be documented via webcam and several players wagered a total of around $40,000 against ‘Boku87’, who received odds of 3/1 with online poker room PokerStars.com holding all bets in an escrow account.
By the end of the first day of the challenge, ‘Boku87’ had played upwards of 50 individual 18 and 45-player tables concurrently with a stake of only one dollar to increase his initial $100 stake to $422. Over the next few days he gradually grew his bankroll by slowly increasing his stake, beginning at three dollars before moving on to six and then to twelve with a mixture of 18 and 45-player games. He suffered two periods where his bankroll fell below $1,000 before quickly recovering.
After a week, the player cut back on the number of tables he was playing and concentrated on playing at only 30 tables at once before reaching his eventual target with 36 hours to spare.
Despite his victory, ‘Boku87’ revealed on his blog that he has no future plans to repeat his feat. However, PokerStars.com has offered to hold a $10,000 freeroll tournament for any players that lost out when the crafty player hit his target.
