Face The Ace On NBC

In America, the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) terestrial television network has announced that it will begin screening a new poker programme this summer entitled Face The Ace hosted by Steve Schirripa. Schirripa is best known for portraying ganster Bobby Baccalieri on the long-running HBO show The Sopranos but served as Entertainment Director for The Riviera hotel and casino in Las Vegas before becoming an actor. NBC revealed that Face The Ace would debut on August 1 at nine o’clock in the evening before moving to a Saturday afternoon slot in September. The show is being produced by Poker Productions, which is also responsible for the popular late night Poker After Dark franchise on NBC, and the broadcaster has agreed to air seven episodes initially. Face The Ace is being produced with the help of online poker room FullTiltPoker.net, which is hosting qualifying tournaments in order to select the two players needed for every episode. The lucky contenders will be required to pick one of four doors hiding a professional player before being pitted against that pro in a game of heads-up no-limit Hold’em poker. If the contestant wins their match, they can opt to take their winnings and leave or risk it all by competing against another pro for a bigger pot. After a second victory, the player will be given the same choice while success against a third pro will see them win one million dollars. However, a contestant will walk away with nothing if they should lose. 'There's nothing like it on the air right now,' said Jerry Petry, Executive Vice-President for parent firm NBC Universal Incorporated. 'This will attract the core poker fans who watch it on our network but will also open it up to a new audience of people who like gameshows and aren't necessarily poker fans going in.'
