Ding Replaces Wu At GigaMedia

Taipei-based GigaMedia Limited, the firm behind online poker site EverestPoker.com, has announced the appointment of Michael Ding as Chairman Of The Board following the resignation of Daniel Wu late last month. GigaMedia revealed that Ding became a member of its board in July of 2003 before being appointed as its Non-Executive Chairman two weeks ago. 'Michael Ding is widely viewed as one of the most respected and experienced finance executives in Asia and we are very proud to welcome him as our new Chairman,' said Arthur Wang, Chief Executive Officer for GigaMedia. 'We have enjoyed the benefits of his experience and judgment during his five years on the GigaMedia board and we look forward to his continued assistance as our new Chairman.' Ding has led several prominent finance and investment banking firms including Waterland Securities, Fubon Securities Investment Consulting, Fubon Asset Management and the ROC Fund. Prior to this, he served as Chief Economist and Head Of Research for Citicorp International Securities in Taiwan and as Head Of Research And Information for the Greater China region at the McKinsey consulting firm. A well-known author, Ding regularly publishes newspaper columns on financial and economic issues and holds a law degree from the Chinese Cultural University alongside a master's degree and doctorate in economics from Indiana University. 'GigaMedia is an exciting company strongly positioned to become a global leader in online entertainment,' said Ding. 'I have been happy to serve on the board for the last five years and am honoured to accept the additional role as Chairman Of The Board.' Wu served as Chairman from July of 2003 and submitted his resignation in a letter on April 29 citing personal and family obligations. 'GigaMedia has grown over ten-fold under the chairmanship of Daniel Wu,' said Wang. 'It has been an honour to have him as Chairman but we understand his desire to spend more time with family and we wish him all the best.'
