Leading online poker site AbsolutePoker.com is building a team of sponsored professional players and revealed that 24-year-old Matt Vengrin has become its first signing.
A member of the Cereus Poker Network, AbsolutePoker.com stated that the Texas hold’em champion has been on the radar of a number of its competitors for some time.
'I am honoured and humbled that I was chosen to help represent AbsolutePoker.com,' said Vengrin.
'I believe in the brand and look forward to a long-term relationship working side by side with the management team.'
In just over two years, Vengrin has won over $717,000 playing online poker at sites such as UltimateBet.com, FullTiltPoker.com and PokerStars.com. This year alone he has already amassed five top-ten finishes in several popular online poker tournaments including a ninth place showing in the first event of UltimateBet.com's Online Championship, a pot-limit Omaha tournament, for $1,800. Other notable cashes in 2009 include a win in a recent no-limit hold'em event for $61,600 and a second place finish in a $100,000 tournament for $21,327.
Vengrin also competes in land-based tournaments and he has already amassed winnings totalling almost $400,000. Most recently, he finished strong in Event Nine of the 2009 Aussie Millions for nearly $10,000 while taking home $6,670 at UltimateBet.com's 2008 Aruba Poker Classic. Equally impressive, the New York native secured $167,973 for a third place finish in Event 29 at the 2008 World Series Of Poker.
Vengrin will compete on the online poker site under the username ‘mattvengrin’ and players can use AbsolutePoker.com’s free Absolute Buddy software to discover where the pro is seated.
