Thursday 2nd July 2009 World Poker Tour Coming To Indiana
The small town of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, is set to become one of the hottest poker destinations in the world next month after the World Poker Tour Enterprises (WPTE) Incorporated signed a deal to bring four new World Poker Tour events to the area.
Formerly known as the Argosy Casino Hotel Lawrenceburg, the Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg will host the 16-day Indiana State Poker Championship beginning from August 3 before November sees the 13-event Hollywood Fall Classic.
In March, the venue will see the Hollywood Poker Open, a $10,000 World Poker Tour Season Eight main event that will be filmed for broadcast on Fox Sports Net in the US and on leading networks in over 100 countries. The winner of this event will also receive a seat worth $25,000 to Season Eight’s World Poker Tour Championship being held at Bellagio in April.
The final new event, the Tri-State Poker Championship, will kick off on May 10 and feature 13 events including senior, ladies and mixed games.
“We are so thrilled to add the Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg to our tour,” said Steve Lipscomb, Chief Executive Officer for WPTE.
“Not only is this our first ever World Poker Tour stop in the Midwest but it’s also our first ever World Poker Tour event on a riverboat-style property.
“The Hollywood Casino not only adds a new and unique element to the tour for professional players but it’s also the perfect property for bringing the World Poker Tour experience to players in the Midwest.”
In addition to being one of only eight properties to host a World Poker Tour event in the US, one of the major attractions of the new facility will be the addition of a 41-table World Poker Tour-branded poker room. The Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg will be one of only a few live World Poker Tour poker rooms in the US and the largest poker room of any kind in the Midwest.
