Thursday 9th July 2009 Final Schedule Set For WCOOP
Online casino PokerStars.com has released the final schedule for its upcoming 2009 World Championships Of Online Poker (WCOOP), which is promising in excess of $40 million in guaranteed prizes over 45 events.
PokerStars.com released its tentative schedule last month, which saw the addition of twelve new events compared to last year’s WCOOP, in order to give players a chance to e-mail their comments and suggestions.
This year’s WCOOP will begin on September 3 from half-past two in the afternoon New York time with a $215 buy-in no-limit hold’em six-max event featuring a $1.25 million guarantee.
The second event is scheduled to take place later that day from half-past four with a $215 Razz competition featuring a $200,000 guarantee. Three events are scheduled on September 4 including a $215 pot-limit OMAHA six-max tournament with a $500,000 guarantee and a no-limit single draw two to seven tournament with rebuys for the same stake. The fifth event will be a $109 buy-in eight-game competition from eight o’clock in the evening on September 4 featuring ten-minute levels and a $50,000 guarantee.
“There are hundreds of exciting tournaments all year round but nothing compares to the WCOOP,” said professional poker player Daniel Negreanu.
“It’s the ‘must play’ event of the year for any poker player. Last year, over 20,000 players came together from across the world to compete in the largest ever online poker event for their chance to become a world champion.”
The WCOOP has been one of the richest online tournament series since it was first held in 2002 and new events for 2009 include a $320 buy-in fixed-limit Badugi tournament with a $100,000 guarantee on September 8. In addition, this autumn will also see a big ante no-limit hold’em event with $500,000 up for grabs on September 16 alongside a $530 buy-in heads-up pot limit OMAHA contest with $250,000 guaranteed on September 19.
The WCOOP will conclude with the $5,200 buy-in two-day main event on September 20 from half-past four in the afternoon and full details can be found at PokerStars.com/WCOOP.
