Monday 13th July 2009 WSOB MARKS NEW SEASON WITH LAUNCH OF ONLINE PLATFORM
PRESS RELEASE 13TH July 2009
World Series of Backgammon® launches its third season next week with the WSOB Cannes tournament at the Palm Beach Casino.
The tournament, which expects to attract players from around the world, is the first event in a new season, which will also include events in Prague and London.
To mark the start of the new season, World Series of Backgammon will also launch its online platform, where registered players will be able to take part in heads-up cash action, as well as online qualifying tournaments to win seats for live tour events.
World Series of Backgammon brand is now licensed exclusively to On a Roll Limited, whose Managing Director, Andy Bell was the originator of the WSOB concept three years ago.
“We’ve come a long way to be where we are at the start of this exciting tour,” said Andy Bell. “Building on a number of valuable new partnerships, the new online platform will be a home to potentially thousands of backgammon players who look for regular match and tournament play. The mix of online, live events and the television deals we have in place with the likes of Eurosport and ESPN International, make this a tantalising combination.”
The WSOB branded online platform, which will be found at www.worldseriesofbackgammon.com will be live on 24th July, and presented to players at the WSOB Cannes tournament.
“This site is what I’ve been waiting for,” said renowned UK backgammon player John Hurst, winner of the UK Masters, the first event of WSOB season II. “The gaming platform and the news and information that can be found on the site make this a really exciting launch”.
Tour Details
The third season of the WSOB will again be formatted around three championship events and a finale, with events in Cannes (July 21-26), Prague (Sept 16 - 20) and London (Oct 20 - 26).
Players also accrue WSOB points by winning matches, which contribute to their WSOB Race standings. The players who have the most points at the end of the three events will qualify for the semi-finals, which are played online. The winners of those online events will win €10,000 value seats and in turn qualify for the finals, the WSOB Championship which will take place at the Loose Cannon Poker Club in London, on DATE, competing for up to €320,000.
Players can also qualify for the WSOB Championship by winning seats online exclusively at www.worldseriesofbackgammon.com
Other new features of the tour in Season three include live online coverage of key matches and bigger prize pools. The new WSOB backgammon platform also opens up the big time tournaments to players with any size of bankroll.
“The new format has the potential to allow a player to qualify online for as little as €3 and go on to win the entire series and a massive prize pool. With all this, I truly believe that Backgammon is coming of age,” said Andy Bell.
