Online Poker Qualifiers Begin For Irish Festival

Online qualifiers for tickets to next month’s seventh annual Irish Classic Poker Festival main event are currently underway at Betfair.com with similar offers due to begin soon at BoyleSports.com and PaddyPowerPoker.com. Every Wednesday starting from nine o’clock in the evening London time, Betfair.com is offering one seat to the main event of the Irish Classic Poker Festival for as little as $2.20. The lucky qualifiers will also be entered automatically into the Free Million Dollar Game freeroll, which will award one competitor with a seat to the Betfair-sponsored World Series Of Poker Europe. Players wanting to win a seat in London on August 16 to compete against 17 others for a one million dollar top prize must simply register for the Irish Classic Poker Festival at Betfair.com. The Irish Classic Poker Festival takes place from August 10 to 16 at Cork’s Macau Sporting Club with the main event, which will be a $140,000 guaranteed no-limit hold'em tournament with a buy-in costing $1,551, starting on August 13. The penultimate competition will have a starting stack of 15,000 chips with 75-minute blinds. Last year, Rob Taylor topped a record field of 169 including Annette Obrestad, Michael Greco, Ian Woodley, Roy Brindley, Marty Smyth, Jeff Duval, Sylvester Geoghegan and Mick McCloskey to collect $64,877. Over 200 players are expected this time out and live satellites offering a place at the main event are also running at Waterford’s Olympus Card Club, Dublin’s JP Poker, Killarney’s Cue Club, Limerick’s Killarney and The Eglinton in Galway with ten seats guaranteed. Betfair revealed that The Celtic Poker Tour Midlands is also set to run a satellite competition with a number of seats guaranteed.
