Betfair appoint Managing Director of Asia

Betfair, the world’s leading betting exchange, today announced the appointment of Tim Levene as Managing Director, Betfair Asia. The new post comes as Betfair continues to expand its international business and focuses on new markets.

Levene joined Betfair in December 2001 as a result of the merger with Flutter.com where, as one of the company’s founders, he played an integral role in their capital raising program in 2000. As Commercial Director at Betfair, and previously Flutter, Tim has been responsible for driving international development in key markets.

Over the next 12 months Tim will be focusing his efforts on developing relationships with major government and industry representatives across Asia, in particular Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China and Thailand.

Levene said, “We’re mindful that the development of key relationships and the expansion of our product in Asia is a long term prospect.

“We believe that Asia represents a huge opportunity for Betfair and we are looking forward to introducing our sports betting product, which will focus on soccer as opposed to horseracing.

“Our move into the region also comes at a time when national governments are looking for viable solutions to counter the unfettered growth of the unsafe illegal bookmaking trade. We believe that the Betfair model can offer governments and existing licensed operators’ solutions and opportunities in this area.”
