Brown wins Total Player contest

SkyPoker.com has announced that Dan Brown has won its 13-week Total Player competition after receiving the most votes from its community of online poker players. The 26-year-old from Doncaster was revealed as the winner during a nail-biting finale screened on Sky Channel 865 last Saturday evening after narrowly beating fellow finalists David Capon and Ben Nuttall. “The light stopped on me and I didn't know what to do,” said Brown. “I was waiting for it to move onto someone else but it didn't. Then Richard Orford announced my name and it was all real.” The Total Player competition began at the end of last year and saw numerous hopefuls vie for the top prize in front of mentors Matt Broughton, David Tuckman and Ed Giddins. The panel were searching for a creative player with a strong all-round game with the field progressively whittled down until only three remained for last Saturday's vote “Over the course of the competition Dan showed that he has what it takes to compete at the highest level in poker and I am really proud of what he has achieved,” said Giddins. “What has really struck me and the other mentors is the friendship that has developed between the finalists. This is really borne out of the community atmosphere found on SkyPoker.com and that community will be supporting Dan all the way to Vegas.” As the winner, Brown is set to represent the Alderney-licensed online casino at an upcoming £100 buy-in SkyPoker.com Tour event along with a £1,000 buy-in national UK tournament. In addition, he will fly to Las Vegas in July for the $10,000 buy-in main event of the World Series Of Poker with Giddins, the Yorkshireman’s mentor for Total Player, receiving ten percent of his winnings from the trio of tournaments. “I immediately thought of Ben and David and what they must be feeling,” said Brown. “There was no way I would be fist pumping and screaming as I have far too much respect for these two mates. I hope that if I had not won I would have been as dignified and shown as much class as Ben and David did that night. They were true gents.”
