Irish Tycoon Wins Online Poker Tournament

Billionaire Irishman, Alan Smurfit, cleaned up at the Palm Beach Casino on Sunday by winning the CelebPoker.com Classic No Limit Hold�em Tournament.

The former packaging tycoon, who sold his company for �3.9 billion, hardly needs the money, yet he expertly defeated roofing contractor David Clark to win the �51,700 prize.

�It was a thrill to win,� he said afterwards. �Not so much for the money, but for the excitement of winning!�

Among the celebrity players taking part were snooker stars, Jimmy �Whirlwind� White, Ken Doherty and golfer Sam Torrence.

Smurfit has taken up Poker seriously since �retiring� from packaging, having recently won a �50,000 tournament and competing in the Las Vegas World Series of Poker.
