Women and Poker: 20% of our customers are women, says VC

Bookmaker, Victor Chandler, has said that one in five of its registered users is now female and that 74% of these women registered in the past seven months alone, statistics it attributes to the growing number of female poker enthusiasts.

Commercial Director Gill Leivesley says: 'There may be a straightforward reason behind poker's growth among women, and that's simply that women make good poker players. Many of the traits associated with successful players are often those that are traditionally perceived as feminine.

'For example, poker requires a player to be able to read both people and situations, to assimilate and process information from multiple sources and to be just that little bit devious when required.'

Online poker has enjoyed a 600 percent increase on last year and it is estimated the worldwide industry will generate approximately £515 million (950 million USD) this year.
