Online Qualifier Jeff Williams Wins EPT Monte Carlo Final

For those who spent their teenage years trying desperately to track down some beer for a party and eschewing anything worthwhile for a few hours on the Playstation, stories of teenage success can really grate. So here’s another one to chew over. 19-year-old University of Georgia freshman, Jeff Williams has just won the European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo, picking up $1 million in prize money.

Having gained entry through a $40 online competition at PokerStars.com, the teen beat off competition from three World Series of Poker World Champions, including Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem as well as 300 other competitors. What makes the win even more astonishing (and depressing for those who devote their entire lives to winning such tournaments) is that Williams only tends to play online and has hardly entered any face-to-face tournaments before.
