Thursday 30th March 2006 New Poker Film to Star Burt Reynolds and Shannon Elizabeth
Not content with record-breaking takings in January and February, continual and growing TV coverage and a slew of celebrity backers, the world of poker is about to boast a new movie too. “Deal”, will start shooting in New Orleans next week and stars Burt Reynolds, Shannon Elizabeth and Charles Durning.
The plot is, well, a bit predictable to say the least: Reynolds, ex-gambler/poker genius, teaches college student (Durning) to play poker like a pro. Sadly, the kid doesn’t go to the Caribbean and earn his college fees on a cruise ship, but has a falling out with Reynolds and then, no surprises, comes up against him in the World Poker Tour. As a result, expect plenty of WPT branding, product placement and the classic ‘everyone’s a winner ending’ to round things off.
In this writer’s humble opinion it may not be worth shelling out the few bucks to go see this at the movies, but the fact it stars Reynolds should have you ready to hire the DVD (as it’s likely this where “Deal” is fated to end up straight after its release).
