Proposed iGaming Prohibition Act Reintroduced into Congress

It may be at the height of its popularity and making plenty of people, plenty of cash, but that isn’t stopping yet another attempt to bring down Internet Gambling once and for all in the United States. The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act is being reintroduced to congress by Richard Boucher and Bob Goodlatte, Republican and Democrat respectively, both representatives of Virginia.

Already, sites are planning their own petitions against the proposed legislation and the Poker Players Alliance have also weighed in claiming that research carried out on their behalf shows that 75% of Americans are against prohibition. President of the alliance, Michael Bolcerek, stated, “It is clear that people don’t want to be told what they can and can’t do in their home – especially when it involves a game that is American as jazz and baseball.” His views have also been backed up by high profile poker pros including Chris Ferguson, Howard Lederer and Greg Raymer, all of whom have said that the policy of banning online gambling is misguided. For now though, it’s a case of waiting to see how Congress play their hand.
