Poker Player’s Lucky Break

Roberto Romanello received a bad injury playing football which laid him up at home and had him in a depressed state. However, little was Romanello how true the old adage “every cloud has a silver lining” would ring when his injury turned out to be that little bit of luck that all poker players need.

The injury finally gave the 29-year-old Welshman time to develop his poker skills and, whilst recuperating from his broken leg, turn himself into an ace poker player. His injury allowed him some serious competition time and he is now heading out to play the tables in Las Vegas after winning a poker room competition.

Mr Romanello said, ‘Although I never played poker on the internet before, when I broke my leg I decided to give it a go. I entered a $50 competition and won the first prize, which was entry to a $750 tournament. The first prize in that was a trip worth $15,500 to play in a poker tournament anywhere in the world with a top prize of £1 million.’

Despite his success, Romanello still does not see it as his “lucky break” in saying, ‘Given the chance, I'd rather not have broken my leg. Even with this win, I'd rather have my health than the money.’ His view may well change if he manages to return with the $1 million dollar prize.
