Hawaiians Embrace Las Vegas

With gambling being illegal in Hawaii, the Aloha State's poker club is taking its show on the road to Las Vegas to determine the island's best poker player.

Binion's Gambling is more familiar with hosting the World Series of Poker's final table than conducting a full tournament but will now have the prestigious honour of staging the first ever Hawaiian Open of Poker.

The Hawaiian Poker Open will be taking place from February 26 to 28. The No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament is open to Hawaiian residents ages 21 and up, and costs $1,000 to enter.

The tournament buy-in doesn't cover travel expenses, hotel accommodations, or the $100 entry fee, so there�s still a little of a financial hurdle island locals to jump in order to take part in this poker event. On the bright side, those finding that their chip stack has dwindled or disappeared altogether can re-buy into the tournament for an extra few hundred dollars.
