Online Casino Giant Looks to Acquire Sportsbook

John Anderson, CEO of online casino and poker group 888, yesterday said he was hoping to buy an internet betting business this year.

Anderson said he wanted to offer sportsbetting to the company's casino and poker players to boost 'customer retention'' and 'organic growth'.

Mr Anderson commented, “In terms of sports books, the one thing I will not be doing is taking bets from American citizens in America because that's illegal under the Wire Act in the States.”

Finance director Avian Kobrine said, “We have a shortlist. We would like to buy something that's an established business. We are not going to start from scratch. That would be suicidal with competitors like Ladbrokes and William Hill.”
