Professional Poker Tour to Debut in July

Billed as the PGA of Poker, the Professional Poker Tour is due to hit screens in the first week of July. The PPT will see the world’s 250 best players, culled from across the WPT, WSOP and various European tours, go up against each other in four quarter finals, followed by a championship round to decide who really is the best in the business.

Invited players must have won a WPT event, taken a seat at more than one WPT Final table in a season, played amongst the final six in a WSOP $10k buy-in or be included in Poker Europa’s Top 10 list. Those in the Poker Hall of Fame can also take up the challenge.

Over the 24 week series, viewers will get the chance to focus on one table at a time, with cameras going direct to any table where a player goes all in. This means that there’s no chance of missing out on any of the high stakes action. All this will be handled by hosts Mark Seif, a WSOP bracelet winner and actor Matt Corboy, along with the so-called ‘field reporter’ (giving the show a wartime feel perhaps, although with a touch more glamour and a little less bloodshed) Kaye Han.

Each round takes place at classic poker venues, from Foxwoods and the Bellagio to Bay 101 and The Mirage. The show starts on the Travel Channel on July 5, which means any plans for spending the summer outside have just been dealt a major blow.
