Online Poker Thief Finds Security Loophole

It's not a secret that every online poker room tries to be tight on security. However, for nine unfortunate folks in Sweden, none of whom have ever played internet poker, one site failed to pick up on a fraud scam.

In all, each person had their bank account emptied whilst one fraudster went on a gaming spree with their money. It's believed that all the card details were stolen in the same place, a department store in the town of Skovde, where all the people had spent money in recent days.

Local police say that one employee is likely to have taken the card details down during payment and then used false names and addresses to register with a number of poker sites. The culprit then proceeded to play as if he'd never played before, spending all the money at his disposal and not winning any back. Clearly no actual thought had gone into his game, even if he was playing with stolen cash.

Each person has had all their money returned and local police have started putting pressure on poker sites to be more stringent in their approach. It seems some are simply failing to check card numbers with addresses. Not exactly something that fills customers with confidence.
