What On Earth Is Poker Pop?

Variations on poker seem to be coming thick and fast these days. Gone are the times when a simple gathering of friends with a few beers and a deck of cards passed for a game. Even basic online tournaments don’t seem to be at the cutting edge any more. The latest innovation is Poker Pop, launched by playfirst.com.

The idea is to teach novices the basics before they head off to the big sites and try to coin it taking on top quality players. Essentially, it’s a tile matching game, where tile are cards and players need to match them up to make a poker hand. It’s themed too. Players travel around a virtual globe too, trying to learn more about each country. Surely this is one of the most utterly bizarre ways to teach the great game, but it sure beats being thrown in at the deep end and losing all your bankroll in one go.
