Video Poker Gets Some Much Needed Backing

After the bad rap that video poker has been getting in North Carolina, there was always going to be someone stepping up to the plate to defend the much-loved machines. According to a report from a consultancy firm, who are admittedly working on behalf of the gaming industry, the machines contribute more than $100 million to the North Carolina economy, helping to create 1,752 jobs. These are mostly filled by technicians and workmen trawling the state’s convenience stores to fix any problems and make sure people aren’t using them unlawfully. The industry is rumoured to pay a massive $57 million in salaries to these people. This will be music to the ears of the machines’ advocates, including Jim Black, the House Speaker. State Senators are unlikely to be impressed, seeing as they have already passed five bills calling for an end to video poker. With figures like these though, there’s always a chance that something could change though.
