Acclaim for Des Wilson’s book on British professional poker

As Macmillan prepare for an unprecedented demand for a book on British professional poker, Des Wilson’s sensational book, “Swimming with the Devilfish”, is already being acclaimed.

In a review in The Observer (June 11), Tony Holden, himself renowned for his poker book “Big Deal”, says “the rich story of poker in Britain has never before been told. This is what Wilson offers, revealingly and compellingly, in a labour of love driven at a cracking pace…an action-packed read”.

Poker Player magazine in a review (issue published June 8) says “it’s a book that finally puts Britain on the literary poker map and to say that you should order a copy immediately is less a request, more a demand.”

Poker Europa (June issue) describes it as “gripping, revelatory and often very funny” and “a compulsive read from cover to cover.”

From PokerNews.com: “Des Wilson has come up with a true classic of poker literature... Wilson has given us perhaps the most revealing look at poker outside of the United States... a delightful, thorough and enjoyable read.”

The book contains a 20,000 word profile of David ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott and follows the British pros around the European circuit and to the World Series of Poker. It profiles such players as Willie Tann, Dave Colclough, John Shipley, John Gale, Jeff Duvall, Andrew Black, Liam Flood, Donnacha O’Dea, Roy The Boy Brindley, and many more, and unveils the reality behind the lives of professional poker players.

It is published this week priced £10.99.
