Video Poker Ban Finally in the Offing

Following months of bickering and backbiting in North Carolina, it seems a deal is finally about to be struck on the outlawing of video poker in it current form. State House Speaker, Jim Black, has said he now favours a phased withdrawal of the machines, after receiving assurances that the jobs of those involved in the industry would be safeguarded. A one year phase out period, coupled with a new state lottery will help convenience store owners come to terms with the changes and still make money, said Black. There are 10,000 video poker machines in North Carolina, each paying out a maximum of $10 in non-cash prizes. The FBI has been investigating the industry for upwards of five years, only last month seizing 100 machines and $1 million in cash from homes in Fayetteville. Black is now hoping that his compromise solution can clear the State Senate quickly. Seeing as how long this scandal has dragged on for, he’ll be very lucky indeed.
