Poker Game Ends in Shootout

On the off chance that you’ve been invited to take part in a shady poker game in a warehouse, it might be best to say thanks, but no thanks. This is perhaps what 66-year-old, Carl Edward Merritt of Charlotte should have done, before he was shot in the abdomen by masked gunmen. Merritt had been taking part in a poker game in storage shed behind shops with a few friends, when his attackers burst in and fired at the table, apparently with the aim of robbing the players.

Merritt fired back before being taken to the emergency room and then on to the operating theatre. He is said to be in a stable condition. Police have yet to work out exactly how many people were playing poker and how many gunmen there actually were. They are also trawling local hospitals to see if Merritt managed to hit any of them with a stray bullet. Once again, it seems playing at home with buddies or simply bolting the front door and giving an online poker room your credit card details is the safest way to spend your bankroll.
