RTG to Launch Portal Approved by Chinese Government

Online gaming and events promoter, RTG Ventures, has signed a deal with NewCoTech to use its state of the art database technology to bring online gaming to the Chinese mainland. RTG ventures signed an exclusive contract with the Chinese Sports Ministry in 2002 to provide the People’s Republic with an online diet of its favourite games of chance: China Xianggi (or Chinese chess), Mah-Jong and Chinese poker. The deal is the only one of its kind and the site is due to launch early next year.

'The Internet is the gaming platform of choice throughout China with hundreds of millions of Chinese gamers playing daily,' said Linda Perry, CEO of RTG Ventures. 'Fans of Xiangqi, Mah-Jong and Chinese Poker offer significant revenue opportunities for RTG Ventures as we tap into the Internet's widespread popularity and the growing disposable income and leisure spending in the world's largest consumer market. The games and championships also give Chinese companies a unique platform to reach large segments of their population.'

'NewCoTech is currently adapting its database software to handle the complexities of Asian text,' added NewCoTech spokesman, Robert Fisher. 'RTG Ventures will soon have the critical technology components needed to support its gaming portal in the explosive Chinese gaming market.'

Companies worldwide are beginning to look toward China as an emerging lucrative market and the potential ‘sleeping giant’ of online gaming, particularly as 2008 Beijing Olympics beckons.
