888.com launch world's first 'Women only' poker table

888.com, the world's number one online casino and poker room, will become the world's first online casino to launch 'women only' poker tables later this year, in response to the growing number of women playing poker.

The move comes of the back of recent research by 888.com, which has shown that there are an ever-increasing number of women who gamble, particularly on the internet. Poker was once seen as a male dominated game, but online poker has provided women with a secure and non-intimidating environment in which to learn and play. The trend has also been led by celebrity interest in the game - Sarah Jessica Parker, Shannon Elizabeth and Mena Suvari are examples of the growing celebrity set who play both online and offline.

Things are set to get even better for girls at 888.com - the new women's only tables will be tailored to the needs of female players with larger 'chat' boxes, giving the facility for players to swap the latest gossip as they play.

The look of the table can also be changed by the female players, as well as hot pink baize and disco balls, girls can order sex and the city style cocktails from the virtual bar, as they contemplate their hand. 888.com is perfect for the growing number of professional female players as well as complete beginners, with online poker tutorials and a unique hand history feature that allows players to record a 'film' of previous hands.

Matt Robinson, 888.com's UK Marketing Manager commented: 'From a study of 888.com's 10 million members, one statistic that stands out head and shoulders over any other stats, is women playing poker on line is at an all time high and the percentage of women plying on line looks set to further increase. Men don't really care what the site looks like as long as it is realistic, fun and entertaining. However women notice their surroundings a lot more and as with fashion, demand the very latest colours and styles, as well as the desire to chat while playing!'

888.com spokesperson, author and 'godfather of poker' Al Alvarez said: 'I firmly believe women make better poker players and this great new facility should help attract more women to take up the game and learn online.'
