Thursday 9th February 2006 UK Survey: More Online Casino Regulation Required
A survey carried out by research consultancy XTN Data has established that only 20% of people in the UK feel that the Government is doing enough to ensure the proper regulation of online gambling. This news comes ahead of the 2005 Gambling Act which comes into force from 2007 and will, for the first time, allow internet casinos to base themselves in the UK.
Another key finding of the survey related to underage gambling. As part of a casino’s legal responsibility, they must do everything possible to ensure that under-18s cannot access their services. However, XTN data found that many gambling sites, sportsbetting sites in particular, aren’t doing enough to combat underage gambling.
35% of people surveyed felt that a UK based online casino operator would be more reliable than those based abroad, however 50% said that they did not even know how to use online casinos and had therefore never used such services.
Greig Harper, founder of XTN Data noted, “As online gambling becomes more mainstream gaming operators need to do everything they can to attract new users including teaching them basic strategies for games.”
