PokerStars to Flout Gambling Law

One of the world’s most prominent online poker sites, PokerStars, has announced that it fully intends to continue its US facing business despite today’s anticipated signing of the Internet gambling law by President Bush.

In a statement released yesterday, the poker operator claimed that the impending US ban on Internet gaming would not apply to poker as a game of skill, and in light of this all areas of its business would continue as normal.

The statement read, 'These provisions do not alter the US legal situation with respect to online poker. Furthermore, it is important to emphasise that the act does not in any way prohibit you from playing online poker.'

'Therefore, our business continues as before, open to players worldwide including the US. You may play on our site as you did prior to the act. PokerStars believes that poker is a game of skill.'

The announcement comes as many online casino and gaming operators are in buyout talks with private companies for their US facilities, with Sportingbet today announcing the sale of its US business to Jazette Enterprises.
