Celeb Poker look towards introducing live video streaming

David Donavon, creator of Celeb Poker, has explained in an interview with the BBC his reasoning behind launching the site, and his plans for the site in the future. The site was launched in April of this year, and offers online poker players to play against celebrities who join the site.

Currently players are also able to chat to celebrities they are playing online, and it is Donovan’s hope to forward this onto video streaming, so that players can see each other while they play. Currently the site is aiming to introduce this facility sometime this year. It is also on the agenda to move into live tournaments- the first being in August where players will be able to play against their celebrity opponents in the flesh.

The site still negotiates with celebrities encouraging them to join the site- the latest signing has been Lou Diamond Phillips. It is Donovan’s hope to add high profile poker fan Ben Affleck, who recently gained a seat in next year’s World Poker Tour Championship thanks to winning a poker tournament last month, as a Celeb Poker member. Current signings are mostly well known sports stars, who Donovan finds as keen to log on and play online poker as their less famous rivals. One member of Celeb Poker is famous rogue trader Nick Leeson, who invites a lot of questions through the website from people curious about the funds he managed to siphon from Barings Bank. Donovan counts the signing of Leeson as one of the proudest moments of his career, I have two proud moments really, and the first has to be our initial celebrity we secured at CelebPoker - who happened to be 'The Rogue Trader', Mr Nick Leeson.

Considering he lost £860m, asking him to play and hoping he doesn't lose our money was quite novel.

The second was watching celebrities play along with the public on our system and the fascinating questions that are frequently asked to the celebrities, such as 'Okay Nick, where did you stash all that money?'

It makes me really proud to think that CelebPoker.com put these people together.“
