Gambling execs to battle it out at Industry Poker Tournament (IPT’06)

Anybody working in the gaming space has the odd flutter, plays a few hands and succumbs to the odd flashy slot, but the majority shy away from the tables, the sports books and online casinos or are ‘encouraged’ to do so.

Sensible and necessary though this is, it’s a shame. With some of the best minds in the business languishing in dingy tech labs all day, traipsing the labyrinthine corridors at casinos or screaming through one airport or another on their way to the next business meeting, too many forget what a fun industry this is.

Bragging rights as the best in the business to be won…

That’s why it’s refreshing to see the guys at Bullet Business [www.bulletbusiness.com] doing something to shake up industry execs for a change, something to lure them away form their spreadsheets and blackberries.

If you missed their Industry Poker Tournament last year you missed out. The 2005 Bullet Business Industry Poker Tournament [IPT] was sponsored by Crytologic and The Poker Channel. Open only to executives from companies in the gambling value chain [and excluding former professional card players!] the tournament pitched marketers against CEOs, tournament directors against tech developers.

Bigger and better in 06

The good news is that the tournament is back in a big way for 2006

“Last year was a teaser year” says Michael Setters, Director of Bullet Business [www.bulletbusiness.com]. “Our networking events never passed without the industry guys talking about how they felt they could easily hold their own in the WSOP”.

“Fine we thought – let’s see who really can play. We set up the IPT and, despite relatively low key marketing the thing went ballistic”

Online qualifiers for the 2006 tournament take place monthly, with the big live final set to take place on December 6 at Bullet Business Europe Summit anybody in the online or offline gambling industry should reserve their place fast. Full information can be found at [www.bulletbusiness.com/IPT]

The big hitters are already putting their names down; 'We at Pentasia (Official Recruitment Partners) are fully behind the Bullet Business Industry Poker Tournament. We saw the impact the show made on the industry last year and knew that we had to be involved this year. It’s a great way to bring the industry together and actually mirrors the competitiveness we see in the industry day in day out.' states Bruce Gamble, Director, Pentasia.

Michael Caselli, Editor of iGaming Business, this years official media partners for the IPT, concurs “we’re delighted that Bullet Business is staging the tournament for a second time. There has been big talk in the industry about who can actually play as long as I can remember and Bullet Business are staging a fantastic show to settle the matter! iGaming Business are excited to be involved and I'm personally looking forward to taking on all comers at the tables!'

What you’re playing for

2005 saw Larry Eeles of Victor Chandler win big bucks for charity in a narrow and hard fought victory over Simon Woolf from Blue Sq. This year there are cash prizes, spot prizes and big money for charity, but this doesn’t really explain the interest the tournament is generating.

Asked why the response was so big last year and why so many people have already signed up for this year’s showdown Michael Setters shrugs “It isn’t the trophy that’s for sure, The 2006 Bullet Business Industry Poker Tournament is getting to be a truly high profile deal and I believe it boils down to bragging rights”.

So, whether you make it to the final tables or not – as long as you beat the guys in your own company it’ll have been worthwhile.

If you make it to the final table and the cards fall in your favor you won’t be inducted in into the Poker Hall of Fame or mentioned in the same breath as Doyle Brunson or Phil Hellmuth but you’ll undoubtedly develop a bit of a swagger!

Fancy a shot at winning the title “best poker player in the gambling industry”? Sign up today at www.bulletbusiness.com/IPT it doesn’t cost a cent!
