Playtech Limited Announces Second Quarter Trade Update

Playtech, the international designer, developer and licensor of software for the gambling industry, has announced its trading update for the second quarter of 2006.

The figures show that total revenue for the quarter has increased by 133% compared to the same period last year, and up 22% on the previous quarter to $25.4 million. Casino revenue has risen 121% in relation to the second quarter of 2005, and is up 21% on the first quarter to $22 million. Poker on the other hand has soared by 701% on the same period last year, and is up 30% on the previous quarter to $2.7 million.

The results point to a strong second quarter for Playtech, despite the period being a traditionally weak time in the online gambling industry. Avigur Zmora, CEO of Playtech, commented on the figures by saying, “Playtech has shown very strong growth over the past quarter. Both Casino and Poker revenues continue to grow and our policy of geographical diversification continues on track. It is also very encouraging to see the progress in our development pipeline. We look forward to the second half of the year with confidence.”

Other indicators show that Playtech has 42 active licensees operating 137 sites, which is an increase of 22 new game sites on the previous quarter. The new platforms and products development incorporates Videobet, Mobile and Mahjong, with a continued focus on the Asian market which has seen a 17% revenue increase on the first quarter. Results also show a decrease in revenue from the US.
