Thursday 13th July 2006 Poker Pro Pescatori Wins Big at the 2006 WSOP
Hailing from Milan, poker pro Max “Italian Pirate” Pescatori finished in first position in the July 7 $2,500 No Limit Hold’em WSOP event, taking home a hefty $682,389 in a big win for Team Brunson.
This win, combined with previous wins, pushes Pescatori over the one million dollar mark with lifetime winnings of $1,544,801 and also gives Team Brunson its largest payout and first coveted championship bracelet for the 2006 WSOP.
Pescatori ($2,320,000) had a commanding chip lead over Reategui ($900,000) before the final hand. In the final hand of heads-up competition, Reategui, holding Qc Td, raised $40,000 pre flop, which Pescatori, holding Jc 8c, called. The flop was Tc 7d 6h, which gave Pescatori a gutshot straight draw. With a pair of 10s, Reategui bet $100,000. Pescatori raised to $350,000, at which time Reategui went all in. The Kh on the turn did not help either player, but the 9d on the river gave Pescatori a jack high straight and his first ever WSOP championship. Reategui took home $356,040 for his second place finish.
