Poker Chip Collecting Gains Credence

Poker players whose dreams of a burgeoning bankroll are shattered or who don�t have the talent to triumph at tourneys are turning to a new poker pastime � collecting poker chips.

Sylvia Williams from online chip store SignaturePoker.com says this novel way of making money out of chips has in fact been going on for quite some time. 'This is not a new hobby. People have been collecting poker chips for years but they just tend to be getting together in the last few years,� she said. �Local poker chip collecting clubs are popping up all over the world and serving as a way for collectors to meet and share their collections with each other.'

According to Williams, a quick search on eBay might show thousands of sellers selling everything from highly valued rare poker chips to discontinued house chips and poker chips made for special occasions. Particularly rare poker chips have reportedly been known to sell for more than $100,000 on eBay.

The Casino Chips and Gaming Tokens Collectors Club, a not-for-profit organisation which was founded in 1988, has become a hub for collectors to find relevant news and information on collecting as well as new friends who share their fondness for poker chips.
