New Poker Game to Comply with US Prohibition Act

GamingPublic.com, a provider of investment information on internet gambling, is plugging a version of online poker called Duplicate Poker which they say contains a high enough degree of skill for it to be exempted from the new online anti-gambling prohibition legislation in the US.

Unlike normal games of poker which, owing to the fact that cards are drawn randomly from a deck, do not qualify as games of skill, the Duplicate Poker game could be legal in a number of states across America.

Invented in 2001 by then Detective Randy Peterson, a court-accredited gaming expert, Duplicate Poker apparently does not change how poker is played, only how it is judged. Peterson says it was not designed to replace conventional poker. Instead, it is a tournament methodology that lends itself to legitimate online play, exemplifying skilful play in broadcast events too.

The game was shelved when Peterson found it difficult to compete with existing operators, but in the light of recent events in the US, he believes that the game will soon be snapped up by the industry’s big players as they battle to continue with their US business.

So strong is Peterson’s belief in Duplicate Poker, that the concept, systems and methodologies are protected by US patent and patent applications. Only time will tell whether his gamble has paid off.
