Poker Record Attempt Dismissed

The story of the 24 barmy poker enthusiasts who aimed to set a new world record by playing uninterrupted poker for more than 43 hours has provoked the poker press and many hardcore players into claiming that the feat is really nothing special.

Playing at London�s Basement Jacks club, the pokerheads begun their efforts last Friday night and reportedly finished 43 hours and 30 minutes later, on Sunday afternoon, stopping only for energy drinks, snacks and calls of nature.

US-based poker players have since argued that longer games are not uncommon. Two-day straight sessions are said to be frequent in the industry, and several notable poker games have carried on for much longer than that, players have alleged.

A BBC news report on the matter said that independent moderators had were present at the London attempt to authenticate the bid, and that the final number will go to the arbiters at Guinness World Records for verification.

Meanwhile, online card forums are rife with comments from disgruntled players who believe the attempt to be anything but unusual.
