Chris Moneymaker banned by French poker sites

French authorities have taken a surprising step in banning advertisements showing online poker star Chris Moneymaker.

The famous face, well-known across worldwide online poker sites, is facing a ban after his play was called into question.

Moneymaker is a former World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion, yet French authorities have attacked the winner for suspect tactics during his 2003 WSOP campaign.

The 27 year-old Tennesse-born accountant has been criticised by the French in the tournament where he banked a $2.5 million prize.

Le Salon des Ambassadeurs, a French online casino, has banned all images of Moneymaker and the website where he won, Pokerstars.

The unexpected move demonstrates France's exceptional policies on online gambling. Recently the European Poker Tour announced that the Deauville leg of the tour was to be scrapped despite hugely successful events in the past two years.

However, in the rest of Europe, poker tournaments are still in their element. Two new legs of the European Poker Tour have been announced in Poland and Germany, demonstrating how the poker trend is migrating. The two countries are only now taking on board the popularity of poker.
