Fraudsters Target Poker Players with Phishing Scam

Websense Security Laboratories have issued further warnings of criminals seeking to fool poker players into disclosing account and card details in a phishing scam.

The new con targets users of online poker sites. Players receive a fake e-mail which claims that a new online gambling law is to be passed, and recommends that users log into their poker account to find out more about what impact the new law is likely to have on them. According to Websense, this fraudulent directs the user to a phishing site which logs personal and account information.

The email and phising site are branded with realistic looking Party Poker logos and the bogus email is addressed “Dear Poker Player.”

The phishing site is hosted in the US. Websense has an image of the phoney site on its own website.
