Anfield legends win through to Irish Poker Open

Former Liverpool FC stars Jan Molby and John Aldridge have secured their seats in the Irish Poker Open, after winning the paddypoker.com qualifying round at the Merseyside River Club.

Victory may have been even sweeter as they beat fellow reds David Fairclough and Didi Hamman in the single table tournament, as well as six online qualifiers - one of whom was a staunch AC Milan supporter.

After dispatching with rivals in a series of epic battles, Molby and Aldridge will now travel to Dublin for the 26th Irish Open, which kicks off at the Easter weekend.

The 2007 event will be the largest in Europe with a 700 player capacity, with some of the entrants ranking among the best in the world. The tournament boasts a €2 million guaranteed prize pool up for grabs and promises the whole unique Irish atmosphere and the legendary 'craic'.

Last year, in a world exclusive, Dubliner Vincent Melinn's €350,000 first prize win was broadcast live across Europe, in just his second ever live competition. This year the event doubles in size and will also be televised. Molby and Aldridge had better hope that they are both match fit.
