Poker proving popular in eastern Europe

Poker is becoming increasingly popular in eastern Europe and as such the countries' population is having an increasing impact on major tournaments.

A growing number of semi-professional and amateur poker players are making their way onto the international poker circuit, it has been revealed.

This growth in eastern European players means the standard is being pushed up all the time, as they bring with them new approaches and a fresh perspective on the game.

At this year's PartyPoker.net European Challenge, there were many eastern Europeans in with a shout of winning the big money and many did very well.

And it was 32-year-old Branimir Brunovic, a trainee lawyer from Zagreb in Croatia, who won the competition, beating professional player, Andreas Krause.

The win could be a major breakthrough for eastern European poker, with Brunovic perhaps set to lead a new breed of eastern European poker stars onto the professional circuit.
