'Beppe' banks big poker win

Michael Greco, who played Beppe di Marco in Eastenders, trumped over 300 players to win the third round of the Grosvenor Poker Tour in Cardiff.

The former soapstar left with £100,000 and a Tutima watch in his pocket after seeing off fellow finalists Hoss Parhizkar and Swansea fish and chip shop owner Roberto Romanello.

Greco became a professional gambler shortly after quitting his role in Eastenders and this is his biggest win yet. A spokesman for the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour said: "Although he has had minor successes in celebrity events, this was his first win in a recognised professional poker event."

The triumph reserved Greco a seat in the grand final of the competition in London, which will take place at the end of November.

Jonathan Raab, the competition's tour manager, said: "After a long, hard- fought poker session, Michael was a worthy winner. He has shown that he has what it takes to go all the way in this game."
