Free money available to El Paso poker players!

El Paso, Texas, is once again playing proud host to poker games in bars and clubs across the town, with no interference from the police despite the games happening almost nightly.

This is because the landlords have found a way of hosting poker nights legally, and are confident they will be able to host such tournaments indefinitely.

The way the poker tournaments are worked means bar owners avoid prosecution because no buy-in fee is established.

After that, players are free to gamble with chips as they would in any other game, although the top three players win $300 per night, rather than individuals gambling with their own cash; effectively bypassing what constitutes as gambling in the state.

To the landlord's delight Javier Sambrano, El Paso Police Department spokesman, said of the rules: "It wouldn't even be considered gambling."

The bars hope to support the poker nights with extra numbers buying food and drink, which is a risk in itself considering a tipsy constitution is the last thing a poker player needs.

And it shows too - many bar managers have admitted some players arrive and leave without spending a penny.
