Laws of Physics Apply at Ladbrokes Poker Million

A middle-aged London nuclear physicist and father-of-three celebrated an explosive win this week when he took home a whopping £1.2 million from the Ladbrokes Poker Million.

After he paid just $9 to enter a satellite qualifier and having started the tournament as an outsider in a field of 25,000 players, Rajesh Modha put up an energetic fight for the richest prize in European poker history.

The 44-year-old fought a Scandinavian opponent for four hours at London’s Marriott Hotel on Grosvenor Square. Top names that also made the final table included Mel Judah and Belfast-born Marty Smith, who both played a risky game to try and make the victory their own.

“I can’t believe I’ve won!” said Modha. “I always knew it was going to be a tough game and I was playing against some strong characters at the table but I just played the only way I know how and it worked for me tonight.”

“The other players played some great poker but I’m just overwhelmed that I’ve won,” Modha continued. “It couldn’t have come at a better time and I’m looking forward to a great Christmas.”
